I use bittorrent, too. I have two seedboxes, though next month I may close one down.

OK, so on this forum, members upload movies to different filehosts. That's the big deal about us :P

The main filehosts used are hotfile, megaupload, netload, and storage.to. You can download each file without having an account at a particular site, but the speed may be slow and you may have to wait 30 to 60 minutes before downloading the next file at the same host.

Let's take my post of Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) for example. I uploaded it to Megaupload (MU), HF (Hotfile), and RS (Rapidshare). You can download the movie from each of those sites. There are more RS and HF files because those sites have maximum file size limits. Megaupload, though, allows 1GB file pieces, so that's why the movie is in just 5 parts there.

You'll notice that the files you download from the links on HD-Dump are in RAR format. It's the same thing as ZIP, but the RAR format gives slightly better compression rates and different options.

After you download all the pieces (i.e. part01.rar, part02.rar, part03.rar, etc), you'll want to use WinRAR (for PC) or (for Apple, RarMachine, UnrarX, BetterZip, and others) to join the pieces and extract the movie. To do this, all that is required is that you have a .RAR program installed -- most likely WinRAR if you're using a PC. If you have an Apple, you'd do well to use UnrarX.

Then all you need to do is use VLC Player (PC & Apple) or Media Player Classic, which is a bit better than VLC in terms of CPU usage, though VLC is more well known.

thanks guys, right now i have xbmc and divix on my computers to just make sure the movies are what there supposed to be. On my hdtv i have a wdtv player hooked up to a 1.5 terabyte hard drive and that setup playes everything i have thrown at it. Do i have to pay anything for downloading the movies?

It sounds like Woja could really help you out. He's got a nice setup in his place that streams movies really well.

Usually people go with their favorite filehost(s) (e.g. Hotfile, Megaupload, etc) and look for movies posted with those URLs. For example, I have premium accounts with Hotfile (9$) Megaupload (9.99$) and so I search for movies and documentaries and really anything that people post using those filehosts. Premium accounts allow you to download faster, with no waiting time (something you have to deal with at each of the filehosts if you are a free/non-registered user) and plenty of perks.

The biggest, most popular filehost that 99% of the people upload to and download from -- Rapidshare -- just implemented a very restrictive and counterintuitive program which is causing movie uploaders to shift to other filehosts that allow more freedom. Hotfile, I'd say, is the second most popular filehost you'll find on HD-Dump.

Once you get a premium account somewhere, you'll want to get a download manager program which allows you to queue up your movie parts (.RAR files) and download them faster than if you did it one by one. Also, it just automates life for you, being that you don't need to be physically at your computer to start downloading the next link/part. Internet Download Manager is your best bet.

You'd probably do well to get a Filedump account, so you don't have to get separate premium accounts at all the different filehosts that I mentioned.*

*(A Filedump account, a download service HD-Dump offers, allows you to download however much premium content/files from 5 of the big filehosts. Woja loads in premium logins to the Filedump server and then you can download whatever you want. The thing is, that server is being relocated at the moment, as I understand it, and will be back shortly. -- I'll keep you updated :P)

to be honest all this looks like a pain in the butt compared to going to pirate bay to find the torrents and using bittorrent to download it. Whats the fastest download speeds have you seen with premium accounts. With bittorrent i see between 400 kbytes and 1 meg a second on a popular movie

Well with filehosts, your speed is only limited by your ISP.
It doesn't matter if the link is popular or not, you get top speeds straight away. It's actually just downloading via http. It's not P2P.
I've reached 11MB/sec when downloading to my server.
At varsity I've reached about 2MB/sec through the usual (Rapidshare, Megaupload, Netload etc).
Also, you can stop and start the downloads whenever you like, and you don't have to wait for the speeds to rise like with bittorrent.
Also, with bittorrent, the torrents usually die after a month or so (or at least get really unpopular so speeds go way down). Filehost links usually stay up a lot longer, and again - always at top speed.

As for your setup, I used to have a WDTV, and I bought one for my parents. I don't like the fact that it doesn't have DTS downmixing since my parents don't have a DTS receiver. Other than that it's a nice, cheap, simple and effective way to play movies

Give it a try and see how it goes. I think you'll be pretty happy with the results. If you're looking for anything and can't find it, just put in a request in the request section, and you'll find that the people here have a lot of resources and can upload things pretty quick.

I'm wrapping up my Materials and Nanotechnology Engineering MSc at university, so I still go there sometimes.
