Thumbs down RapidPoints and RapidDonations to be discontinued

Reward programme: RapidPoints and RapidDonations to be discontinued

As of July 1, 2010 RapidShare's RapidPoints programme will be discontinued. This decision by the company is a reaction to claims that the reward programme rewards the uploading of contents that are protected by copyright.
We feel it is necessary to undertake this step as we do not wish RapidShare's users to be exposed to such an unjustified general suspicion. Our primary objective remains to provide users with a fast, secure and reliable service.

What will the changes mean for our users?
First, nobody will lose any points that have already been accumulated. You can redeem them until July 6, 2010. Please also note that within the next days we will offer you an opportunity to convert a Collector's account into a free Premium account and to transfer your points into this Premium account.
Unfortunately, we must also give up the RapidDonation scheme. An amount of 10,000 Euros was collected for each and every organisation and project that was introduced. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the donors for their contributions!
We are currently exploring how we can continue the donation programme in the future.
Clearly, we would like to continue rewarding customers who recruit new clients. As soon as we have developed a new reward programme, we will of course contact you immediately to provide more details.

Wow.

I think we should all move to netload.
They pay, don't ban accounts for no reason, and don't have download limits.
Also, are stable and have been around as long as Rapidshare.

Thanks for the heads up Fisto. You won't be seeing me upload too much to Rapidshare.
They're not even going to be good for backups because of their 60-day rule, and the fact that less people will now have Premium accounts.

I personally hate Hotfile. Their customer support has the mindset of a 12 year old, and I've seen many cases where they swear at customers and ban accounts for no reason.

That being said, I always upload to a number of filehosts so that when the file gets taken down on one filehost, I can just download from the other and reup.
Hotfile has mass banned the IPs of 80% of the datacenters in Germany, so I actually cannot download from Hotfile to my server, making it pointless for me to upload to them.

I vote Netload.
They've been around as long as Rapidshare, have good speeds for both free and premium users, and above all, aren't a bunch of a-holes like Rapidshare and Hotfile.

The biggest surprise for me is that Rapidshare are actually telling people in advance about this change.

Until now Rapidshare have always changed the rules, and only notified users afterwards, not leaving any time to prepare.
This time they actually gave notice.

Anyway, Rapidshare change their rules all too often, and I'm fed up.

I'm sticking with MU. Netload in the past didn't gain my confidence.

Luckily there are good alternatives like Mediafire and Megaupload too.

Well... I've started uploading to differnet filehosts, to see how they're like.
Netload is still good imo apart from their file deletion policies.
I've started uploading a bit to MU, but uploading is very slow to free accounts.
Uploaded.to seems to be good so far, and I might just add it to filedump in the future.
Fileserve is a bit of a hassle to work with, but I'll give it a bit more of a try.
Hotfile is a no go for me for now, since I can't redownload back to my server - meaning files there cannot serve as backups.
Oron offer very poor downloading opportunities for free users (1 file per 12 hours or something like that) and you can only upload up to 250gb.

I would be very sad to see Rapidshare being taken away from your Premium service. I find that most of the downloadable stuff can be found on RS. from eg. Katz Downloads. That would really restrict me. Especially now that Hotfile has been taken off.

You can always find MU links on the internet. I'm sticking with MU, RS, and HF from now on. It's not too much sweat off my back if RS deletes my links, because I know at least a few people will have benefited from them. My MU links have yet to go down, except once.
