As of June 29, 2010, RapidShare is changing its product and payment models. In future, the costs for RapidShare accounts will no longer be tiered according to time period; instead there will be five packages with differing features. These packages will be paid for with a new currency known as "Rapids". In order to grant our customers maximum flexibility when choosing the type of package, they will be able to switch between packages on a daily basis and hence select the features that suit them best at the time.
All previous Collector's accounts will be automatically converted into free Premium accounts on July 1, 2010, thus making it still possible to use the RapidShare service without charge.

What is actually changing: pricing model
RapidShare is launching a new currency: Rapids. This will allow users to take up various packages from June 29, 2010.
Rapids can be acquired in the following increments:

Prepaid funds
400 Rapids € 4,99
1.000 Rapids € 9,95
2.000 Rapids € 19,90
5.000 Rapids € 49,75
20.000 Rapids € 199,00

Many users will already have Rapids in their accounts from the start as both the remaining days in existing Premium accounts and unused traffic share will be converted automatically into Rapids. For each remaining day, the user will be credited with 20 Rapids. For example, if there are 10 days left in a Premium account, the user will receive 200 Rapids. Each GB of traffic share will be converted into 5 Rapids.
Any accumulated Free- and Premium-RapidPoints can also be converted into Rapids until July 6, 2010. Altogether, 5,000 Free-RapidPoints and 5,000 Premium-RapidPoints equate to 600 Rapids; 50,000 Free-RapidPoints and 50,000 Premium-RapidPoints will give 6,000 Rapids.
A maximum of 50,000 Rapids can be obtained by converting existing RapidPoints, traffic share or the remaining time on a Premium account.

What is actually changing: product model
These modifications will not change anything for Free Users. Owners of previous Collector's accounts will receive free Premium accounts, enabling them to manage their uploaded files in the Premium Zone. Downloading and storing are just the same as for the previous Collector's account.
Users who have Rapids can choose from five types of fee-paying package. What is special about these packages is that every user can turn the features off and on to suit their needs from day to day. In this way, we hope to offer our customers an even better service and, above all, much more flexibility than before.

* RapidSmall For the RapidSmall package, users pay 4 Rapids a day. This gives them 10 GB of secured storage and a daily traffic volume of 1 GB. What's more, they can take advantage of file management and direct download features.
* RapidMedium Those who opt for the RapidMedium deal get, in exchange for 20 Rapids a day, 50 GB of secured storage and a daily traffic volume of 5 GB. In addition to file management and direct downloads, users will be able to manage their data in folders.
* RapidBig Holders of RapidBig accounts have access to 200 GB of secured storage and a traffic limit of 20 GB. Along with other RapidMedium features, in this version users will also be able to have their account verified. The RapidBig package costs 78 Rapids a day.
* RapidSupersize With the RapidSupersize account, users receive 600 GB of secured storage and 60 GB of daily traffic in return for 229 Rapids a day. As an added feature, users will have the ability to sell their own files via the Licence Manager.
* RapidBusiness With RapidBusiness, commercial customers benefit from being able to store and grant others access to even greater quantities of data for 449 Rapids a day. In addition to the features of the RapidSupersize deal, customers will have access to Licence Manager+.

Plus, business customers can receive targeted offers on request.
If users load their account with Rapids through payment or by converting RapidPoints, Traffic or remaining time, they will be set up with the smallest package (RapidSmall), with the option to upgrade at any time.
All features of the new model will be explained in further detail on June 29, 2010 on rapidshare.com.

i am very interested to know how these Rapids can be earned by the downloads of files in account and what would be consequence of becoming a verified user in the rs since any big package would be having that feature.

A little bit of additional info I found on the web that helps explain it a bit better:

Ans: You should extend it for one year. That way you'll get 7300 Rapids for 50K FP + 50K PP. If you leave the points as it is you will get 6000 rapids. The reason is given below

Ans:Well 5,000 Free-RapidPoints and 5,000 Premium-RapidPoints will become 600 Rapids. If you have more just do the math.
50,000 Free-RapidPoints and 50,000 Premium-RapidPoints will become 6000 Rapids.
100,000 Free-RapidPoints and 100,000 Premium-RapidPoints will become 12000 Rapids.

Question 3: How many Rapids can we collect

Ans: 50,000. If you have more than 416667 FP and 416667 PP, they extra points will be wasted after 29th June

Question 4: If you have more than 416667 FP and 416667 PP points what should i do with extra points

Convert them to One year accounts. Since the point no more have a time frame for expiry. You can keep those accounts as long as you don't use them. Keep those accounts for the time when you run out of your current account

Question 5: Do i have to pay for upload. What would happen if i take the RapidSmall Package which only has 10 GB Storage. Would i be unable to upload more than 10GB. And what if i have 200GB in my account. Will Rapidshare delete all the 190 GB and will leave only 10 GB

Your uploads won't be deleted as long as they are downloaded once every 60 days. Doesn't matter which package you have. The 10 GB storage mentioned in the news page means 10 GB of your files won't be deleted even if they are not downloaded for more than 60 days.

You can upload as much as you want and even if you have 300GB in your account, those files won't be deleted on 29th June or later as long as they are being downloaded once every 60 days.

Question 6: What is the most similar package to the previous one month premium account

Ans: RapidMedium. It has the same 5 GB limit as one month account had. It's price becomes to around 7.5 Euro which is 0.5 Euro more constly. But since you can turn it off and on, it can be used for much more time

Question 7: Would there be happy hour

Ans: nobody is sure. Maybe or maybe not. Wait till 29th June

Question 8: Would RS give us any points for our files being downloaded?

Ans: nobody is sure. RS hasn't specifically mentioned that. Neither have they denied it. Maybe or maybe not. Wait till 29th June

In short, you now need to micromanage your Rapidshare accounts.
If you're not planning on downloading anything, you need to downgrade to a smaller package.
If you're planning on downloading some big files, you'll need to change plans a day before so that you'll be able to download.

I really don't understand what Rapidshare have been smoking lately.

they are wipping all the uploaders accounts, just like that, they dont want accounts like yours woja, with thousands of points, they are killing the uploaders by the bad way, too bad cuz without the uploaders their business will wo to bankruptcy

So, yesterday I decide that I want to download something from Rapidshare.
I go into the only account I have left (collector that they converted to premium).
I go through everything and make sure I've clicked and checked the right boxes and chosen the right options.
I choose Rapidsmall account and click the "delete inactive files box" so they don't automatically upgrade my account since I have 1TB files there.
I click the "activate account" button and BAM!
I'm on Rapidshare BUSINESS at 450 rapids a day!
There go all my rapids.
I sent them an email, but their service has turned to shit lately, so I don't expect an answer before Christmas.

Anyway, the move away from Rapidshare is something that definitely needs to be done, even as a downloader.

Looks like u too have fallen to their idiotic sys that changes the package to the one which accommodates the server space used.....i too have lost the 499 points in the account in a night and what more the whole 120gb bw got wasted since it does not carry forward.....really they should be having some sense in using such kind of sys.....any way i am better of rs and only using it for downloading.

Unused traffic volume does not expire.
You will only be charged for additional storage if you activate the "keep files forever" option.

The prices for Rapids remain the same as before.

That means that users can use their RapidPro 30 days for only 99 Cent making the new RapidShare second to none also in terms of value for money.

Please note that users have the following options in their account settings:

* Keep files forever: This option is not activated in the default settings. This means that if users exceed their storage volume, files that have not been downloaded for 60 days will automatically be deleted.
* Automatic purchase of traffic: This option is activated in the default settings. As soon as users reach the limit of their traffic volume, they will automatically buy additional volume.
* Automatic RapidPro Extension: This option is activated in the default settings. RapidPro-Packages will automatically be extended after 30 days if the user still has Rapids left.

Users can change these settings at any time in their account settings.

We are convinced that we will meet our users' needs with the new and simple model.

So, like I've been saying - Rapidshare change their policies so much, you need a PhD to keep track of what you need to do to manage your account just for simple downloading.
I really don't understand why we need this, since most uploaders have ditched RS anyway, so even finding things on RS isn't that trivial anymore.

For those who say that they prefer RS because they're stable, that's just not true. Other filehosts don't change their policies once a month and alienate and confuse their customers on how to use their services.
